Nordic Gateway is a joint project of Vaasa Region Development Company VASEK, Viexpo and YA! Vocational College of Ostrobothnia. It was initiated in November 2013 with a working title of “17–17–17”, based on the vision according to which by the year 2017, 17 new companies from the Ostrobothnian region have entered the Norwegian market and the total amount of their sales add up to EUR 17 million. The project was officially launched on September 1, 2015. It is funded by the European Regional Development Fund and the project period will last until June 30, 2019.
Growth and competitiveness in the Ostrobothian region are among the highest in Finland. Companies have traditionally oriented themselves towards west, mainly Sweden, which explains the long traditions in commerce between Ostrobothnia and Sweden. Ostrobothnia has a strong will to succeed and its language, culture and entrepreneurial spirit create favorable opportunities for successful collaboration with Sweden and Norway.
In Norway, oil and gas industry, marine industry and building industry need new qualified partners. We at Nordic Gateway help Ostrobothnian companies to enter the Nordic markets. We provide assistance in creating networks in different areas and geographical regions of Norway and Sweden as well as provide the Ostrobothnian companies with information and contacts. An important tool in this work is EnergyVaasa, the leading Nordic energy technology cluster located in Vaasa with its 140 energy technology companies.
The project organizes a number of activities each year, such as participation in fairs, market analysis trips, matchmaking events, seminars, sales cafés and B2B-opportunities for businesses. You can find more information on these in the calendar.
